The impact of catch-and-release management practices on fish: a review of the literature
This report was presented by its author at the joint meeting of the Scottish Freshwater Group and IBIS at Stirling University on 24.10.2013 - see event page.
Further presentations/discussions will follow at an IBIS Knowledge Transfer Workshop to be hosted by the Loughs Agency in Northern Ireland - venue/date tba.
Report authored by John B. Hume

about this report

In order to evaluate the potential effectiveness of C&R management practices to priority-management marine and freshwater fish species in the Integrated Aquatic Resources Management Between Ireland, Northern Ireland and Scotland (IBIS) study area, factors that influence post-release mortality and sub-lethal effects have been reviewed from the primary literature.
This is followed by more specific accounts of the efficacy of C&R management practices for six priority fish species or groups in the IBIS study area: Atlantic salmon Salmo salar, brown and sea trout Salmo trutta, northern pike Esox lucius, skate (Rajidae) spp. and shark (Selachimorpha) spp.
